We’re proud to share that XyloPlan has been featured in the inaugural edition of PG&E’s Wildfire Resilience Partnerships (WRP) newsletter—a new publication highlighting impactful collaborations across California that advance wildfire safety beyond utility rights-of-way.
One featured project highlights how XyloPlan’s fire behavior modeling helped guide fuel break placement in Lake County, supporting the Clear Lake Environmental Research Center (CLERC) and its expanded Hogback Fire and Fuel Crew, funded by a $500K PG&E capacity-building grant. By identifying where fire is most likely to spread, and where it can be most effectively slowed, XyloPlan provided the data-driven foundation for a strategic, community-protective treatment corridor.
As part of the effort, the Hogback crew implemented a data-driven wildfire behavior fuels treatment optimization pilot, placing a strategic fuel break beneath a 60kV transmission line that also serves as a powerline-anchored community protection corridor. XyloPlan’s analytics helped identify where treatments could most effectively slow fire spread toward the community of Hidden Valley Lake and reduce ignition risk to utility infrastructure.
A Shared Approach to Resilience
In a fire-adapted landscape, the goal is not to eliminate wildfire, but to ensure that when it does occur, it doesn’t result in the loss of life or property. PG&E’s WRP program reflects a growing recognition that meaningful fire mitigation takes collaboration and better data. The partnerships between Lake County and XyloPlan exemplifies how data-driven mitigation planning can align community safety, utility resilience, and wildfire behavior science, ensuring that every dollar and acre treated delivers maximum impact in protecting lives, homes, and critical infrastructure.
A New Model for Risk-Focused Collaboration
We’re honored to support a growing network of local governments, fire crews, landowners, and utility providers working together to build wildfire resilience. By using science to map where fire is most likely to move, and where it can be most effectively slowed, XyloPlan helps communities prioritize resources, justify funding, and protect what matters most. This collaboration reflects our mission: to guide community adaptation to wildfire in fire-dependent landscapes in ways that minimize losses, promote healthy ecosystems, and support thriving local economies.
